Tine Bruhn Quartet

Tuesday, June 07
8PM & 9:30PM

Vocalist Tine Bruhn teams up with pianist George Burton

Jazz vocalist Tine Bruhn is perhaps best known in New York City for her work with Johnny O’Neal with whom she released “Nearness” (2013) - an intimate collection of standards that received high praises in the jazz media. With two critically acclaimed albums under her belt Tine Bruhn has headlined at major jazz clubs in the US and Europe including Duc des Lombards (Paris), Chris' Jazz Cafe (Philadelphia), Smalls and Zinc Bar (NYC) where she is featured regularly.

The Danish-born singer explores contemporary jazz as well as the tradition and especially shines in her lyrical interpretations of music by Joshua Redman, Marcus Miller, Roy Hargrove, Pat Metheny and Oscar Peterson.

Although Ms Bruhn adores and respects the American Songbook, her true passion is a more modern and instrumental approach to her material. George Burton is the perfect match to her musical vision. As a rising star of cutting edge jazz, he’s been praised as "formidable" by NPR, and "charismatic" by The New York Times. Burton's dazzling virtuosity and breathtakingly eclectic approach to music reflect his experience in every aspect of the spectrum of jazz - beginning with rigorous classical training, branching into his equally rigorous experience in the heady nightlife of the Philadelphia jazz scene, and earning him a place on the world stage with some of the most significant practioners of bop, post bop and beyond - from Eddie Henderson, Jack Walrath and Terrell Stafford - to his current position as the pianist for the Sun Ra Arkestra.

Catch them at Zinc Bar before Tine Bruhn spends the summer in Europe with performances including Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Duc des Lombards, Paris.

JazzTimes: ”It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to suggest that their [Bruhn and O’Neal] natural rapport is as affecting as Evans’ with Tony Bennett in the late 1970’s...Bruhn’s voice, faint traces of her Nordic ancestry still evident, is fjord-cool yet shot through with a buttery warmth.”

Come out and experience the mentorship, competition, collaboration, and best of all: the never before heard unique musical enterprises that come of improvisation and innovation. From the most famous musicians, singers, tap dancers to the emerging generation of artists, we invite you to come and experience one of the most essential tools in furthering this generation of music and artistry.
