Peter Brainin and New Quintet
Tenor and soprano saxophonist Peter Brainin is a Grammy and Latin Grammy winning artist as well as an award-winning composer. Best known for his long-term associations (including recording, festival, club, television and film appearances here and around the globe) with Hilton Ruiz, Chico O’Farrill, Mongo Santamaria, the Afro Latin jazz Orchestra, Joey Calderazzo, Valery Ponomorev, Bebo Valdez, Willie Colon and Legal Alien and Steve Berrios. Peter is also co-leader of the quartet Native Soul and of several adventurous CD recordings with master drummer Steve Johns which feature contributions by Conrad Herwig, Eddie Henderson, Ben Monder and George Cables. To quote Edward Blanco of eJazzNews - “Peter Brainin is one of the most recognizable and brilliant saxophonists in the jazz world today”
This powerful new international quintet of New York’s finest, all of whom have worked closely together for many years in a wide variety of settings, bring an incredible wealth of creativity and experience to expand on the New York “Latin Jazz” tradition. Inspired by artists like Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band, the drummers in this group build a fire that envelopes all the music they touch, while the soulful writing and re-interpretaions “in all languages” speak to their love of harmony and of humanity itself!
