Band of Bones

Dave Chamberlain's Band of Bones took shape two years ago after literally years of germination.  Inspired by the 1950s group of JJ Johnson & Kai Winding, with a hint of Count Basie, Band of Bones is a swinging big band with a unique sound and intrumentation :  eight trombones (count 'em) and rhythm.  Stocked with top-shelf New York pros, they play a mix of classic arrangements by JJ, Kai, Dick Leib, and Wayne Andre, as well as those by rising talents like Bob Suttmann, Nate Mayland, Chris Rinaman, and James Zeller.  Originals by pianists Kenny Ascher and Bill Whited are also in the book.  There are lots of big bands on the scene, and lots of good ones,  but nobody sounds like the Band of Bones.  As Doug McIntyre of WABC Radio says, they have "a sound that demands attention!"
