Sets at 9:30, 11, and 1:00AM
For ten straight years- the best of Brazilian Jazz led by the magnificent pianist & composer Cidinho Teixeira. Each Sunday Evening features a changing roster of the top local Brazilian vocalists. Tonight's special guest is Filo Machado.
Filó Machado is about as well-rounded a Brazilian musician as there is. Not only is he a singer, composer, arranger, vocalist, percussionist, and guitarist, but he also has synthesized virtually every Brazilian music idiom of the past 50 years. Born in 1951, Machado came up in São Paulo, where he performed with such noted artists as guitarist Rosinha da Valença and vocalist Simone. In the mid 1970s, he performed in famed singer Alaíde Costa's band. In 1978, he released his first album. The 1980s and '90s brought collaborations with composer/guitarist/vocalist Djavan, and singers Joyce, Flora Purim, and Jon Hendricks, among others. Machado's latest album, Cantando um Samba, comes from Malandro CD.--- JAZZIZ Magazine Copyright © 2000, Milor Entertainment, Inc.
