David O'Rourke
David O’Rourke (Born on February 7th, 1960 in Dublin, Ireland) heard jazz when his father played him selections from his eclectic record collection. In his late teens, inspired by Louis Stewart he decided to make jazz guitar his life. Not long afterwards his love of arranging and orchestration was ignited when his lifelong favorites like Robert Farnon, Thad Jones and Nelson Riddle caught his ear. Having spent 1982-83 in NYC David moved here in 1989. As guitarist or arranger David has worked with people like Tommy Flanagan, Jackie McLean, Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins, Vernel Fournier, Czeck Philharmonic Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, Sirius String Quartet and many more.
Gary Giddins said: “David O’Rourke justifies the Commitments belief in Irish blues!” while George Benson said of David: “He strikes a groove right from the git-go!”
