Arthur Dutra


Born in Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Dutra has released a solo album, intitled "Projeto Timbatu", with guests such as Marcos Paiva, Marco Pereira, Nelson Faria, Quarteto Maogani, Victor Biglione, Mauro Senise and Marcelo Martins. After completing studies at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), in 2001, Dutra relocated to New York City and quickly became an in-demand sideman, complementing many players in the New York Area, such as Cidinho Teixeira, Forró in the Dark and Jorge Continentino. A graduate of the City University of New York, Dutra received a BFA in Jazz Performance, having studied with Mike Mainieri, Mike Hollober, Scott Reeves, Daniel Carillo, John Patitucci, and Stephen Jablonsky. After graduating, in 2005, Arthur Dutra resumed performing with his trio and quintet in clubs such as The Cornelia Sreet Cafe. Also in 2005, he had a song recorded by singer Gretchen Parlato and bassist/composer Morrie Louden.

Back to Rio de Janeiro in 2006, Dutra has become the most active vibraphone player of his generation in Brazilian Music, having recorded with great MPB artists such as Lenine, Moska and Vanessa da Mata, and collaborated with artists such as Guinga, Zé Nogueira (Djavan, Stefano Bollani), Mário Adnet, David Ganc, Adriana Maciel, Victor Biglione, Zezé Motta, Roberto Menescal, Ricardo Silveira, Marcos Suzano, Jorge Helder, Jurim Moreira, Daniel Garcia, Lula Galvão, Alberto Continentino, Santi Debriano and Lucina, among others. He has performed throughout Brazil, and also in the U.S and China.
