Renowned tenor saxophonists Jerry Bergonzi and George Garzone are set to grace the stage at Zinc on Friday, May 3, with their exceptional ensemble. Joining them will be Julian Shore on piano, Peter Slavov on bass, and Ben Perowsky on drums.

Jerry Bergonzi, an internationally acclaimed jazz performer, composer, author, and educator, has left an indelible mark on the global jazz scene. His performances have resonated at prestigious jazz festivals and venues worldwide, both as a solo artist and alongside numerous jazz legends. Bergonzi is celebrated for his groundbreaking music characterized by innovation, virtuosity, and unwavering artistic integrity. His extensive discography comprises over 60 recordings, including the notable “Standard Gonz” by the Jerry Bergonzi Quartet on the Blue Note label. Furthermore, Bergonzi boasts 60 registered song titles with ASCAP, reflecting his prolific and enduring influence.

George Garzone, another remarkable saxophonist, is a distinguished member of The Fringe, a jazz trio established in 1972, featuring bassist John Lockwood and drummer Bob Gullotti. The ensemble regularly graces the Boston music scene and has even embarked on tours in Portugal, with three albums to their name. As a seasoned jazzman, Garzone’s musical journey spans over 20 recording collaborations. His musical odyssey began on the tenor saxophone at the tender age of six, performing in a family band and pursuing formal music education in Boston. Garzone’s versatility extends to guest appearances with notable artists, including European tours with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and collaborations with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, John Patitucci, and others.
