About

“A searing unison interplay between Theo Bleckmann and Ben Monder – either they rehearsed this passage for months or they have developed a familial telepathy from their years of collaboration.” —All About Jazz

Join us on Monday, January 16th as acclaimed jazz guitarist Ben Monder and vocalist Theo Bleckmann team up for a performance at Zinc. They are supported by drummer Satoshi Takeishi.

Ben Monder is a musician based in New York City with over 30 years of experience. He has performed with a wide range of artists including Jack McDuff, Billy Childs, and Maria Schneider, and contributed guitar parts to David Bowie’s album “Blackstar.” Monder conducts clinics and workshops worldwide and has taught at the New England Conservatory, NYU, and the New School. He has released 6 albums as a leader and appeared on over 200 CDs as a sideman. Monder has also collaborated with Theo Bleckmann in a long-standing duo project and performs internationally in solo and trio settings.

GRAMMY-nominated jazz singer and new music composer Theo Bleckmann has a diverse recorded repertoire including albums of Las Vegas standards, Weimar art songs, and popular “bar songs” with pianist Fumio Yasuda, a recording of newly-arranged songs by Charles Ives with jazz/rock collective Kneebody, and his acclaimed “Hello Earth – the Music of Kate Bush.” Bleckmann has collaborated with a range of musicians, artists, actors, and composers and has been interviewed by NPR’s Terry Gross and appeared on the David Letterman show. In 2015, he premiered a new work for the American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and in 2016 he brought new work to the New York Philharmonic Biennial and the LA Philharmonic. Bleckmann has consistently ranked in the top 5 of DownBeat’s Critics’ Polls for Best Male Vocalist and top 10 in their Readers’ Polls. In 2010, he received the JAZZ ECHO award from the Deutsche Phono-Akademie in Germany. Don’t miss your chance to see these talented artists live – get your tickets now.
